Welcome to three thousand years of history! Pula’s history begins with the myth of the Argonauts and the search for the golden fleece, through the Histrians, Romans and Venetians, the central port of Austria, all the way to today’s modern, the largest cultural and economic center of Istria. Various layers of history have woven a unique urban fabric where Roman temples defy baroque palaces, early Christian churches stand opposite Austrian villas, and the remains of medieval walls are intersected by ancient city gates.

In Roman times it was known as “Astiniaum” Stinjan is located on the hills and waves above the northern shore of the Bay of Pula. A small and quiet place has developed 700 m from the beautiful coast surrounded by pine forests, so Stinjan is an ideal destination for your next vacation. In this small place there are great beauties of the coast, bays, islands and peninsulas. In Štinjan, visit the parish church with the bell tower of Sv. Margarita, a monument to the victims of fascism, a street called “Šaliž”, the hill Turulu, the fortress Punta Cristo on the peninsula Proština
and in the bay Žunac and Cape Guc the remains of an ancient swimming pool with a mosaic floor and the remains of a large wool rolling mill. From the historic core concentrated around the central square and the parish, the place is expanding in all directions and new residential and tourist zones are growing the most.

Pula Airport is only 5 km away from the city center, which can always be easily reached by taxi, bus or organized transport. Also nearby is Vrsar International Airport to accommodate smaller aircraft.
Regular international bus lines connect Croatia with Austria, Italy, Hungary, France, Germany, Slovakia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and other countries.
